Case Study: Salt Lake County – Mailing Voter Material and Public Engagement
Salt Lake County retained Amplify Relations to provide communication materials, public meeting notices, scheduling and implementation related to voter education on the Community Preservation ballot question in November 2015. Amplify Relations coordinated logistics for each town hall meeting, including mailed notifications, provided staff at each town hall meeting, prepared detailed reports following the meetings, and delivered additional informative postcard to the residents.
- Goal 1: Design, print and mail 42 versions of a mailer inviting the voters of the individual townships and incorporated areas to the local town halls to learn more about Senate Bill 199
- Goal 2: Design, print and mail an informational mailer on Senate Bill 199 and the creation of “Metro Townships”. The design will include answers to commonly asked questions as well as facts about the vote on the November 2015 ballot
- Goal 3: Facilitate and coordinate all seven of the town hall meetings
Tactic One: Amplify Relations sent the mailers to households as opposed to individual voters. This resulted in significant savings for Salt Lake County, allowing them to maximize their budget for an additional mailer.
Tactic Two: For the first postcard, Amplify Relations designed an easy-to-understand postcard explaining the complex ballot initiative.
Tactic Three: The second postcard utilized variable data printing to create individualized messages for each town hall and voter segment, inviting voters to a town hall meeting explaining the impact passage of the ballot initiative would have on their community.
Tactic Four: Amplify Relations coordinated all of the logistics for each town hall meeting; provided staff and, and follow up communication to attendees, and reports to Salt Lake County officials.
Amplify Relations delivered 29,000 town hall invitation postcards and 29,000 informative postcards to households with registered voters in Salt Lake County. Amplify Relations successfully facilitated each of the meetings with attendance ranging from 50-300. Amplify Relations received positive feedback from Salt Lake County on the execution of the project.
“The meetings were wonderfully organized and executed flawlessly. We appreciate your support!” Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams
